ArCharles McCaughtry was born in Niles, Ohio. He graduated from Capital University, Columbus , Ohio with majors in fine art and history, and from the Hartford Art School, The University of Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut with a M.A.Ed in painting.
He has exhibited widely in numerous museums and art centers including the Cleveland Museum, Cleveland, Ohio; the Columbus Museum, Columbus, Ohio; the Berkshire Museum, Pittsfield, Ma.; the Copely Society, Boston, Ma.; the Cape Cod Art Association, Barnstable, Ma.; the National Academy of Design, N.Y.,N.Y.; the Foothills Art Center, Golden, Colorado; West Texas Watercolor Association, Lubbock, Texas; the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society, Pittsburgh, Pa.; the Connecticut Watercolor Society; the Slater Museum, Norwich, CT.; the Erie Art Center, Erie, Pa.,;the Silvermine Guild, Silvermine, Ct.; Mystic Art Center, Mystic, Ct. and many others.
Charles has recieved over fifty awards for his watercolor and acrylic paintings from these exhibits. He has held over sixty one-person exhibits including Capital University, Columbus, Ohio; the Ashtabula Arts Center, Ashtabula, Ohio; Horn of Plenty, Pittsburgh, Pa; Providence Watercolor Club, Providence, R.I.; the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT.; Hampshire College, Amherst, Ma.;Lebenon Gallery, Lebenon, Ct.; Different Drummer Gallery, Hartford, Ct.; Arts Exclusive Gallery Simsbury, Ct.; Kent State University Warren Campus, Warren, Ohio; Jones Library, Amherst, Ma.; Ellsworth Public Library, Ellsworth, Maine; Niles Historical Society, Niles, Ohio; Tree’s Place, Orleans, Ma.; Wyget Woods Gallery, Rockwood, Ontario, Canada, to name a few.
Charles has taught drawing and painting at private and public High Schools, and as a lecturer at universities. He maintains a studio in Ashford, Connecticut.
